What is an Opportunity Fund?
An Opportunity Fund is an investment fund, organized as a corporation or partnership, that invests in Opportunity Zones. Some Opportunity Funds may be created for a specific project, such as a large apartment building. Other Opportunity Funds may be more like Mutual Funds or Hedge Funds, where the Opportunity Fund holds a range of investments that evolve over time.
You can achieve substantial tax savings by investing in an Opportunity Fund.
How can I find an Opportunity Fund to invest in?
The legislation authorizing Opportunity Funds was adopted in December 2017. Now, in 2018, the IRS is preparing regulations that will refine our understanding of what Opportunity Funds are and how they operate. We expect the financial industry to begin creating Opportunity Funds in earnest in late 2018, after the IRS regulations are in place.
